I'm delighted. One of my goals with the two 8.5 RFCs [1][2] on the matter was to enable exactly this.

Still really disappointed that PHPStan works against developer-to-developer communication and lessens a cool new language feature in PHP by making (void) casts pointless.

And mostly with myself, I apparently was unable to communicate this clearly enough to get this changed.

I highly recommend ignoring that rule to improve your codebase.

One of the things I really do enjoy about working at @Tideways@phpc.social is that I get to explore all the PHP frameworks and libraries we instrument in our test suite. While these days other people do most of the work, I still get to see sample applications and see the discussions, updates, and how things work internally. From FrankenPHP to Tempest ( which we just announced support for https://phpc.social/@Tideways/115978386992477446 ). All the cool new things happening in PHP <3
